Business visitor visas (B-1) for citizens of India to be limited to six-month validity

July 6, 2012

Did you know that the duration of validity of many U.S. visas is based on reciprocity?  The standard period of validity for a U.S. visitor visa is 10 years.  However, recently the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi has noticed a trend of U.S. business travelers to India being granted visas with only six months validity.  The U.S. Embassy reports it is in talks to resolve the issue, but warns it is possible the U.S. will reciprocally issue business visitor visas (known as B-1 visas) with a validity of only six months to Indian citizens in the future.
