USCIS announced that beginning October 1, 2021, applicants for permanent residence will be required to complete the COVID-19 immunization series. This will be addressed during the medical examination by the immigration-approved civil surgeon. The Department of State has indicated it will follow the lead of USCIS. Therefore, applicants must either provide proof of COVID-19 immunization or be willing to undergo the vaccines. The requirement might (might) be waived There are some waivers available for applicants who are underage or where the vaccine would be contraindicated (example: adverse health condition or religious conviction) or where the vaccine supply is limited and a delay would be adverse to the applicant.
