Filing Complaints against Notarios and Immigration Consultants

September 22, 2011

The State of Tennessee has recently cracked down on notary publics or “notarios” advertising themselves as lawyers to the immigrant community. The state attorney general’s office has hired a full-time lawyer to pursue these claims, signaling a commitment to stopping fraud.

Just last week, a Brentwood, TN woman was accused of deceptively providing legal help on immigration forms. The state attorney general’s office filed suit recently in Davidson County Circuit Court charging that the owner of Comunidad Hispana is not a lawyer and is in violation of the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act. The suit accuses her of drafting powers of attorney and legal contracts as well as filling out immigration forms. We applaud this new focus on protecting immigrants.

Protect your employees’ futures insisting they be competently represented by an attorney who has experience in immigration law. Immigration laws and regulations are complex and challenging, and the consequences to your business, your employees, and their families can be dire.
