Nonimmigrant Visa Ban Expires Quietly

April 3, 2021

Could we be getting back to normal? On March 31, 2021, the ban on issuance of certain employment-authorized non-immigrant visas quietly expired. Specifically, H-1B, H-2B, L-1, and J-1 visa bans are no longer in effect. Despite the visa ban expiration, several regional travel bans remain in place. This includes travel from the U.K., Ireland, the Shengen region,  Brazil, and South Africa. National Interest Exceptions to the U.S. may be granted on a discretionary basis, provided the travel will have an impact on our “critical infrastructure.” As always, we strongly recommend you consult with your attorney at Rose Immigration Law Firm prior to any travel abroad, as well as prior to planning a trip to the U.S. While life might be moving slowly toward a new “normal,” we will continue to monitor international travel policies closely in the hope of avoiding unnecessary delays for our clients. In the meantime, we urge you to stay safe and exercise the usual caution.
