On June 27, 2013 the U.S. Senate voted 68-32 in a bipartisan effort to overhaul the nation’s outdated immigration laws. The last major immigration reform took place in 1986. The new 1,200 page bill is poised to fix our nation’s broken immigration policies. Although reform advocates hope to see the final bill passed by the end of the summer, the strong opposition the bill will now face in the House of Representatives could prolong the battle for comprehensive immigration reform well into 2014.
